Q: On August 22, the office of former Lithuanian President Ms. Dalia Grybauskaitė announced that Ms. Grybauskaite had visited Taiwan with a delegation from the Atlantic Council, a US think tank. According to reports from Taiwan media, Ms. Grybauskaitė attended a seminar on addressing China's challenges organized by the Taiwan Prospect Foundation on the 22nd. Ms. Grybauskaitė met with Joseph Wu, the head of Taiwan's foreign affairs department, on the 23rd, and had a meeting with the leader of the Taiwan region, Tsai Ing-wen, on the 24th. What is China's response?

A: As is widely known, the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China, which includes Taiwan, an integral part of China's territory. Over 70 years ago, both the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation explicitly stipulated the return of Taiwan, the Penghu Islands, and other territories Japan had stolen from China, constituting a crucial component of the post-World War II international order. The one-China principle is the universal consensus of the international community and the basic norm of international relations, as well as the political foundation and important prerequisite for the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and all countries in the world, including Lithuania. The visit of former Lithuanian President Ms. Grybauskaitė to Taiwan at the invitation and her meeting with the leader of the Taiwan region are wrongful acts that run counter to the one-China principle and the basic norms of international relations, constitute gross interference in China's internal affairs and send a wrong signal to the separatist forces for "Taiwan independence", which China expresses its strong dissatisfaction with and resolute opposition to.

The Taiwan question is China's internal affair and is related to China's core interests and brooks no foreign interference. Any political attempt to challenge the one-China principle and to condone and support the separatist forces for "Taiwan independence" will ultimately end in failure.
