China's 56 nationalities are good at both singing and dancing. China's folk dance is rich ahd varied. According to statistics, there are more than l,000 folk dances in China, including the Dragon Dance, the Lion Dance and the Drum Dance of the Han nationality, the Peacock Dance of the Dais, the Fan Dance of the Korean, the Bagpipes Dance of the Miao and the Shoulder Pole Dance of the Zhuang.

Dance drama is a new type of performing art in China. In the late 1980s, Chinese dance drama became quite active. Many works of excellence, such as Siluhuayu, a large-scale dance drama which reflects the friendship of China with other countries in the Tang Dynasty, appeared. In addition, the ballet, which was introduced to China in the 1 950s, is also developing quickly. Several Chinese ballet dancers have won prizes in international ballet competitions.
