On August 1, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held a telephone conversation with German Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Both sides positively evaluated the bilateral relations and agreed to enhance dialogue and communication. They also committed to building up mutual trust and deepening cooperation to push forward the bilateral ties.

Yang hoped German athletes could achieve good performances during the Beijing Olympics and Steinmeier wished the Games a success.

They also exchanged views on international issues of common concern.
