Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with His Tajikistan Counterpart Zarifi

On May 11, 2012, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in Beijing with his Tajikistan counterpart Hamrohon Zarifi, who is in China to attend the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Foreign Ministers Council.

Bilateral relations have made a historic leap since the two countries established diplomatic relations 20 years ago, Yang said. The two sides have signed the "Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation" and worked on a series of cooperative projects, Yang said, adding that both countries have coordinated well in international and regional affairs. China attaches great importance to its ties with Tajikistan and deems it a sincere friend and reliable partner. China is ready to work with Tajikistan to push bilateral friendly cooperative relations to a new level, he said.

Zarifi said since the establishment of diplomatic relations 20 years ago, the two countries have always conducted close cooperation and improved the level of bilateral relations. The development of bilateral relations has benefited the people of both countries. Tajikistan values its relations with China and will firmly adhere to the one-China policy, as well as support China's position in combating terrorism, extremism and separatism, he said. Tajikistan is willing to make joint efforts with China to promote the comprehensive and in-depth development of bilateral ties, he said.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
