On May 23, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the Foreign Ministry with Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Maria de Lourdes Aranda Bezaury, who is here to chair the preliminary session of the third meeting of the China-Mexico Permanent Bi-national Commission. Aranda, on behalf of the Mexican government and people, expressed condolences and sympathy to China and extended respect for the dauntless spirit shown by the Chinese people. She also expressed admiration for relief efforts of the Chinese government and military, adding that the Mexican government has decided to offer 100,000 U.S. dollars in aid to the Chinese government. Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi expressed gratitude for the donation.

Both sides also exchanged views on bilateral ties and major international and regional issues of common concern.

Following the meeting, Aranda mourned the quake victims at the Foreign Ministry.
